Short Story from Class

I had to write this short story for my class. My professor read it out loud to the class. he liked everything but the end so I have to work with the ending. enjoy!

It was a bright and sunny Saturday in my small little town in Utah. People were out and about running errands and taking in the beautiful sight of the rocks gleaming with sunlight, making them look almost like gold. I was looking forward to driving out into the mountains with no boundaries. Before I could head out onto the highway, I had to stop and get gas for the car. As I pulled up to the gas station and got out of my car, a man in his late forties ran up to me. He was telling me how there was a man inside who was having a hard time breathing and was lying on the counter. He thought that at any moment, he could die. I looked around me to see if I could see any police or ambulance but saw nothing so I did not believe the man. I continued to pump my gas when another man, this one in his thirties came up to me and tells me the same news that the older man told me. This man however, actually showed me where the man was lying down on the counter. You could clearly see him lying on the counter through the window, clutching his chest in agony because he could not breathe. I got very worried and could not understand why everyone around him was not carrying about what was going on. People kept going into the store, buying their cigarettes and soda without a care in the world about the man. I started frantically asking around if anyone had dialed 911. The only response I received came from a woman who told me that they called his wife and she was on her way. I knew that this man had no chance to wait for the wife and that he needed to get to the hospital immediately. I ran to my car to get my cell phone to call 911. Just as I opened my car door, I hear my cell phone ringing. I kept trying to answer it but it just kept ringing. I frantically tried to yell at someone to help the man when all of a sudden I opened my eyes to realize that it was all a dream and that the cell phone I couldn’t stop from ringing was actually my alarm was going off.
